Priest Profile

Name:

Fr. Jeff Martin
Parish:

All Saints Church

Logansport, IN

Email:

Ordained June 4, 2005

Q. Why do you feel called to the priesthood?

A. I believe that God is calling me to the priesthood to serve the people of God. There are many people and experiences in my life that God has used to lead me to priestly formation. The self awareness of this vocation (or I would guess any vocation) didn't happen all at once, but the call reveals itself for the most part gradually through prayer, meditation, spiritual counsel and regular reception of the sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation.

Q. What is your favorite book? Why?

A. I have a lot of favorite books. I guess it depends on what topic. At the moment, I would have to say the Theology of the Body by Pope John Paul II. There are other books written by Christopher West that help explain this book that I am finding very helpful in marriage preparation. The Theology of the Body is actually a compilation of general audiences given by Pope John Paul II over 20 years ago. In these talks the Holy Father unpacks beautifully what it means to be male and female, the meaning of marriage, the gift of celibacy, and so much more.

Q. Anything you would like to say to those currently discerning?
A. I would like to encourage anyone who is discerning God's call in their life to be open and honest with God and with a trusted priest, or spiritual director. Don't be afraid to ask God what He wants in your life. Your answer probably won't come all at once, but be faithful to prayer and the sacraments. I would also encourage those discerning to find others that are discerning and to pray with them. It is amazing how God can speak in a "still, small, voice" in the midst of private prayer. At the same time, God can speak through others that we share our personal journeys, or experiences of Jesus Christ, with.
