Priest Profile

Name:

Fr. Joshua Janko
Parish:

St. Maria Goretti Church Westfield, IN

Email:

Ordained June 3, 2006

Q. Why do you feel called to the priesthood?

A. I feel called to the priesthood because I believe Jesus, for one reason or another, has chosen me to give my life for others as a priest. He said, "You did not choose me, but I have chosen you." I want to give my life to the Church and to Jesus Christ. The Lord also spoke to me through the Sacred Scriptures:

"If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me. Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, will save it" (Matthew 16:24 -25).

"And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. The harvest is rich but the laborers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers to his harvest" (Matthew 9:36 -37).

Please pray for me as I seek to conform myself to the mind and heart of Christ, who "did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom of many" (Mark 10:45 ).

Q. What is your favorite book? Why?
A. I enjoyed reading Story of a Soul by St. Therese of Lisieux. I am inspired by her simple, yet profound life, that she lived in the monastery of Carmel . She has encouraged me in my vocation to remain 'little,' 'simple,' and 'full of love.' She is one of my heroes. Please read this book if you have not yet done so.

I am thankful for the Frassati Society of Young Adult Catholics for the support in my vocation. I hope and pray that others will join us in this vocation of sacrifice, mystery, courage, fidelity, and service. Verso l'alto!
